A series of one on one mentoring sessions, working on alignment, physical awareness and Yoga assist techniques. The mentoring sessions also included the observation of one of my classes and adjusting in his regular classes.

Master teacher Tias Little, 3 days workshop - The Yogi and the Buddha

Through Yoga practice, the Buddha cultivated a firm spine and open hip joints to embody the highest wisdom called prajna. The word prajna suggests an insight or understanding that is not simply intellectual but involves an embodied, cellular knowing. In this 3 days workshop, we combine the powerful techniques of asana and pranayama with the clear and poignant teachings of the Buddha dharma. We use asana to strengthen the body and dharma study to gain insight into the mind and emotional body. This process requires sensitivity, listening and a capacity to intimately connect with what is happening. Through dharma study, guided meditation, somatic awareness and yoga postures, this immersion is a profound integration of yoga and mindfulness. Tias guides students to states of inner reflection through poems of awakening from the Taoist and Zen traditions. 
 

Ana Muriel - Energy Flow: exploring the alchemy of flow. 

The 10th body is the Radiant Body and refers to a field of energy that extends 9 feet around us.  Energy comes into the body through the crown chakra, goes up and down the spine picking up speed and then extends and builds up the Radiant Body. Some refer to the Radiant Body as a band that sits on top of the aura, almost like a golden tip or energy field. A powerful 10th body makes one courageous and radiant.

Ourmala Refugees Awareness Yoga teacher training.

Today’s media shows countless images of refugees and asylum-seekers, often in a desperate and derogatory light. Their reality is harsh and many are vulnerable. They are also some of the most brave, wonderful and inspiring individuals. 

Teaching Yoga to this group is not like teaching a standard public class. Some may be clinically traumatised and highly vulnerable, many are not. Either way, there are cultural, gender and practical considerations to be taken into account to ensure that as Yoga teachers we are teaching to the best of our ability, taking our duty of care seriously and always putting the wellbeing of our students above all else.

This Refugee Awareness for Yoga Teachers course has been especially designed for Yoga teachers and those in teacher training.  Ourmala has been dedicated to providing Yoga classes for refugees and asylum-seekers in London since 2011 and this course is based on good practice for working with people who have experienced atrocities such as torture, sexual violence in conflict and human trafficking as well as our own practical experience. 

Yin Yoga Workshop with Norman Blair

Norman Blair is one of the most experienced yin yoga teachers in the Uk. Norman has been practicing yoga since the early 1990s and started teaching in 2001. He has years of experience in teaching Yin yoga and weaves into this wonderful practice his own background of Ashtanga yoga and Buddha-Dharma meditation to create a potent mix that is soothing, grounding and inspiring. He sees yoga as a beautiful way of being, which will enhance your life, welcome you back to your body, release habitual tension and encourage a greater focus and quality of mind. He has trained with teachers such as Hamish HendryJudith LasaterRichard FreemanAlaric Newcombe and Sarah Powers. His approach is about enabling accessibility, encouraging acceptance and deepening awareness. He recently published Brightening Our Inner Skies: Yin and Yoga.

Absolutely, Positively, Strong. Positive Psychology + Yoga - Mercedes Ngoh Sieff

During this daylong workshop expert Vinyasa Flow Yoga teacher and qualified Positive Psychology Coach Mercedes Sieff explored both physical strengths and character strengths.
Positive Psychology is commonly referred to as ‘the Science of Happiness’ and one where the study of Strengths plays a large part.  Mercedes combined two practices which lend perfectly to each other as both are concerned with human flourishing and potential. The morning session consisted of a challenging, interactive, full spectrum vinyasa flow practice.  The afternoon explored Positive Psychology + Strengths Building. The evening closed with a restorative session and meditation, exploring the new research around the benefits of developing a mindfulness practice based around key character strengths. 

Qigong - sacred energy arts

Qigong is an ancient Asian system of health and self-development. Slow circular, repetitive movements invoke a sense of inner peace and relaxation. Learning to cultivate and manage a high grade of Energy. Special emphasis will be placed on intention, alignment and Taoist “natural breath”. This class was built on strength, grace and calm. Suitable for all levels.

Sacred Energy Arts draws from the teachings of yoga, healing, and martial arts. Sifu Matthew Cohen developed this method after discovering that even though healing, yoga, and internal martial arts stand alone as great health systems, something powerful and transformative emerges when the practices join. Together they compliment each other to create a complete practice. 

Patrick Beach workshop - Open Heart Open Mind / Backbend with ease

Focusing on a number of heart-opening postures and taking them to unexpected places of movement and freedom in our bodies. So often we find ourselves caught up on just one path or swirling the same old circles, with the same old narratives. Use this expansive, expectation-shattering practice to break out of old habits and start moving in new directions! Learn to move your spine safely through its full range of motion with grace and ease. Expect to leave class with a new sense of space and a lighthearted mindset.

Monthly Yin Yoga workshop with Georgina Evans

This practice is suitable for all levels of yoga practitioner.  Each individual can use props as needed to facilitate 'appropriate' stretch in healthy tissues and to achieve appropriate holding and support in vulnerable (injured, hypermobile, sensitive) tissues. Lying and seated poses are held for a longer period of time: 1 - 5 minutes. This gives us time to relax, let go, open up and connect to our inner experience. In the quietness of Yin yoga, we follow each moment, breath by breath. Over time, we get to know ourselves better -  we become more familiar with who we are and how we feel. We tap into the deep roots of love from which all seeds are nourished, encouraged and nurtured to fruition.  

Emma Landolt - Inversion workshops.

In relation to the Glandular system and energetics of the chakras, as they open they allow the flow of prana to heal, and make the glandular inner machine, inner body to work at its best. Shoulders connected to chakras 4, 5, 6. / thymus, thyroid, parathyroid and pineal glands. Hips connected to chakras 1,2, 3 / adrenal glands, pancreas, reproductive glands. As pranic healing happens in these centres, pericardium expands for the emperor (heart) to open up into unconditional compassion and love. And in love, primal wisdom leads the way.
